Since installing Windows 2000/ME, I have not been able to get X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter to work. It does not seem able to detect
DirectX but everytime I try to play, it takes me to the DirectX 5.0 setup. And I have already installed a higher version... How can I get XvT/BoP to work?

A: there're are several solutions:
1) Create a shortcut to z_xvt__.exe and give it the parameter ishost, so the command line should be: z_xvt__.exe ishost
OR
2) Run Z_XVT__.EXE directly from the root of the XWingTie directory ( if you play BoP from the XvT/BoP directory)
OR
3) Copy ddhelp.exe to your c:\winnt\system32 folder - on some pc's it works, on some it doesn't

Installshield asks for a password when I try to install X-wing vs TIE Fighter or Balance of Power?
A: Shutdown Norton Programs such as Systemworks, AntiVirus, FireWall, etc. If you don't have Norton Programs or if it isn't working try shutting down as may programs as possible except for explorer and systray. Now Install again :)

When ever I try to play X-wing vs TIE Fighter or Balance of Power my screen goes black?

First Press "F" then "A" to exit the game without having to reboot - works better then your "switch-off" button.

A: Try playing in windows 95 compatible mode (XP users). Go to your XvT/BoP directory and select Z_XVT__.exe -> click right -> properties -> compatibility -> play in windows 95
OR
Make sure your monitor and videocard supports low screen resolutions like 480 * 640
OR
Select 3D or unselect 3D (depending your settings)

Windows 2K will give the most problems with installing, Windows XP mostly with videocards
